Zantac (Ranitidine HCL) was a prescription and over-the-counter medication used to treat heartburn and other gastric problems caused by large amounts of stomach acid. Ranitidine contains N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), a highly toxic contaminant derived from dimethylhydrazine, a component of rocket fuel, and known to cause certain cancers.

Improper storing of Zantac leads to dangerously high levels of NDMA, significantly increasing cancer risks. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered the discontinued manufacturing of Zantac in 2020. Since then, thousands of lawsuits against Zantac manufacturers have been filed.
